LO4 Task 6: Budgeting for new game

We decided to target the last generation of consoles such as Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as PC as it would not cost as much to develop as it would on the new generation consoles. We are using the engine Unreal 3 as it targets the right platforms we are looking to develop our game for and has a similar graphics style of cell-shade such as Borderlands 2 which uses the same engine.

Content Playtime: 15 hours of Story

We think that to create this game using our platform, it would take around 75 people for 22 months - the total Man Months for this is 1500 months. This includes:

 Art - 300 Man Months

Animation - 150 Man Months

  Effects - 60 Man Months

Coding Rules - 300 Man Months - (we haven't needed to buy any coding for an engine as we already own the Unreal 2 engine)

Coding None-Playable Characters/AI - There are going to be enemies in the game that will have their own behaviour and motives. This will take a total of 150 Man months to develop.

Level Design - We will need to create the different locations that will need to be played through in order to complete the story - this will take around 300 man months.

Total Costs: (Baghead Highlighted Green)

LO4 Task 3: Target audience and profile

Target Audience
The general target audience for this game is role-playing gamers, who might play such games as the Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Fable. Other genres of gaming also falls into this game however, similarities to GTA V can be found, such as the ability to switch between characters mid-game, the free-roam aspects and the fact that not only is the game set in another dimension, but our own world also. A lot of the settings and characters show a slight similarity to the works of BioShock also.

Target Audience Profile
Kevin is a 17 year old student with a part time job as a glass collector in a local bar. Kevin really loves games and often spends much of his time playing them while socialising  with his friends via mic online. Kevin really enjoys open world games especially those that allow him to not only create his own character but to develop them as a person also. this usually takes up lots of Kevin's time. because of this Kevin especially like long games that usually have several campaign modes, side missions, quests and lots of little hidden secrets to keep him entertained through out the games story. Kevin has yet to find a game that has everything he is looking for as he likes to try out and experience every genre of game preferably all rolled in at once.

LO4 Task 2: Minutes Meeting

Will Hewitt/ Lewis Leversidge

Agenda:
1. Present to Team of possible game concept/idea
2. Discussion of roles and responsibilities
3. Choosing a group idea/focus
4. Naming the Company

1. Game Ideas

Will - A role-playing game of sorts, inspired by the likes of Fallout and Skyrim with added aspects of other famous games such as Grand Theft Auto and Borderlands

Lewis - a new side to the game inspired by war , showing conventions of games like Gears of War,  Call of Duty and Halo

We both decided to try and make both ideas correspond with each other and make a game that was fairly accessible to a wide range of gaming audiences, combining elements from a wide variety of games and titles from Halo to Fable.

2. Roles

Will - Concept and Design, Advertising and Distribution, Development

Lewis - Concept and Design, Legal Considerations, Budgeting and Costs

3. Chosen Focus/Brainstorming

We both decided on a game set in another world that comes into contact with our own, fusing both the sci-if/fantasy elements with real-life present-world game play. We think this unique blend will appeal to many gamers into a variety of war, role-playing and adventure games. Here are some draft game pitches for our game - we came up with the name Baghead for our game as it isn't too glamorous or representative but feel it has a minimalist, "less-is-more" effect on the audience.

LO3 Task 1: My Game Review

Enslaved odyssey to the west

Game:
Developers: Ninja Theory
Publishers: Namco Bandai games
Designers: Bruce Straley
Writers: Alex Garland
Composers: Nitin Sawhney
Engine: Unreal Engine 3
Modes: Single-Player
Genre: Action-Adventure Platform

  Narrative/Storyline:
Based on a old Chinese text called “journey to the west”
You play as a man called Monkey who mysteriously wakes up on a spaceship heading to an unknown location. After waking up you break out of your pod and immediately skewer the ship to look for any information you can to why you’re on the ship and the direction in which the ship is heading. After a short amount of time you run into a girl who immediately sees you as a threat and attempts to run away from you, locking security doors behind her in an attempt to get away. After finding your way around any problem she causes for you, you come to the realization that the ship is decreasing and about to crash as the ship is on fire due to an engine problem. because of this you quickly make your way to the end of the ship trying to find any emergency escape pod you can in an attempt to not die, at this point you then run into the girl you met before who then steals the last capsule, attempting to leave you on this ship to crash with it. At this point in a last resort you grab hold of the escape pod just before it shoots you into the air and crash lands on the planet below. You then wake up besides the crashed pod with the girl not too far in front, in anger you approach the girl furiously before falling to the floor in pain, the girl then tells you that her name is Trip and she has mind control device to protect her from you as if you attempt to kill her the device attached to your head will kill you also. At this point she then blackmails you in to helping her return to her to her home town and be reunited with her father, in an exchange for her to free you and relies the device controlling you. This is where your journey begins.

  The Characters
Monkey Is a smart strong character that doesn’t mind using his staff (His weapon of choice) and overall fighting techniques to push his way through a wave of Mekz (Robots) Also being named after a monkey we soon learn why he is given this nickname, as he is fast and uses parkor and aerobatics as a part of his fighting style also being surprisingly smart and light on his feet like a monkey. As well as this, Moneys appearance has similarities like his posture and the way he moves around all relate to that of a monkey to add to his character and gimmick.

Trip is a smart team leader with authority over monkey, using her brain she uses mind control to communicate to monkey in different ways, with this power she can guide monkey what to do and where to go also using her tech skills to help out the team with complicated stuff. Trip having no real ability uses her brain in almost every situation and relies on monkey and Pigsy through out the game in many different situations, this can often be annoying as she doesn’t take part in any action (apart from the rare occasion when she’s being attacked) but still expects you to do everything, and with her having control over you playing monkey you have full responsibility over her which often can be hard when your busy in the game and she needs your help or rescuing.

Pigsy is the most unique character in the game as you meet him quite late on and he automatically becomes just as important as Trip and Monkey. Having the same features of a pig as well as the assets, Pigsy not like the stereotype of a pig is very fast very smart and comes in handy with a gun as well as the humor that tops the game off.

Appeal to target audience
To the fans that like this type of game (Action, Adventure) they will find this game a real treat to play as this game ticks all the boxes of what an action- adventure type game should from phenomenal Graphics to an amazing story. Everything about this game is fantastic and won’t disappoint fans as there’s constantly action, which by itself takes a lot of time and planning as half of the time going out with fists flying may not be the best option. Overall the game is a great pick and will please all buyers and generate a large fan base.

Quality of Game play
The game play is smooth and flows well with movement of the characters as everything works well together witch is why the game was so successful, gained a large fan base and had such a great story, as everything was planned and thought out carefully to make the game as good as its now become.

Personal Recommendations
I think this game is amazing and well worth the money, for its age and the type of game it is, it has superb graphics and a fantastic story. From the visuals of the game it looks like all the game play actions have been preformed from actors as cut scenes because the quality of the graphics are so rich and detailed. All the characters are designed well and all have a purpose to contribute to the game
